According
to Keith Jones, Executive Director of the Northwest Alabama
Council of Local Governments, Guin Mayor Phil Segraves and
Sheffield Mayor Ian Sanford were recently elected as Chairman
and Vice Chairman of the NACOLG Board of Directors.
As one of 13 regional planning commissions initiated by
an act of
Alabama
legislature, NACOLG provides numerous public services to the
northwest corner of the state.
More specifically, the NACOLG region consists of Colbert,
Franklin, Lauderdale, Marion and Winston counties and the
municipalities therein.
In
addition to installing new officers, the agency has recently
developed a website to promote the availability of public
services throughout their five-county region.
Nacolg.com highlights the broad range of programs and
services administered by the agency and features a monthly
calendar of events as well as a staff directory.
NACOLG’s divisions include the Department of Aging
Services that provides a comprehensive range of programs for
those aged 60 and older.
The Transit Department manages a public transportation
system and operates the Dial-A-Ride service for residents of the
Shoals urban area while the Transportation/Planning Department
assists local governments and their utility departments with
economic development by providing extensive mapping and planning
services.
Likewise, the Governmental Services Division helps
counties and cities in their pursuit of grant funds needed to
initiate community development projects, infrastructure
developments or business expansions that create jobs.
Furthermore, a Court Referral Department administers
State certified substance abuse referral programs in conjunction
with area circuit, district or municipal courts.
If
you’d like additional information regarding services provided
at your regional planning commission, go to nacolg.com or phone
