Shoals Area

Do your dinners include a variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables? If these items aren’t gracing your dinner table, NACOLG has a resource that can help. Fresh produce is now available free of charge to needy elderly of the Shoals area thanks to an innovative program sponsored by NACOLG’s Department of Aging Services. The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides coupons redeemable for freshly grown produce for qualifying residents aged 60 and older who meet specific income limits. Registration for these vouchers is currently underway at the Florence Senior Center, 415 Fairground Road, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and also at the Muscle Shoals Senior Center, located in Gattman Park, from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. weekdays. Vouchers can be redeemed at Farmers’ Markets in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Marion and Winston Counties as well as at participating roadside stands throughout the area. Lauderdale County residents can call Angie or Teresa at the Florence Senior Center at 760-6420 for more information. Colbert County residents should contact Betty at the Muscle Shoals Senior Center at 386-9280.
